PENS in Esri Living Atlas

The Power Event Notification System (PENS) Provides the most comprehensive, independent, observational view of the power distribution grid. We partner with communication companies to extract power data from primary aggregation points, and deliver it to our customers via low latency, private, and secure fiber networks.

Layer Information

This layer shows power outage counts as detected by PENS between June 2023 and June 2024. For the purpose of the Living atlas, outages are defined as including a minimum of two PENS sensors within the same space and time. The outages are symbolized by count throughout the year and are aggregated to US National Grid (USNG) in 1km by 1km cells.
